Mission Statement
The mission of Merrill Intermediate School
is to provide students with a solid, yet diverse educational experience; to
promote active, lifelong learning; and to develop the skills necessary to become
responsible citizens. This mission will be accomplished through the commitment
of staff, students, parents, and the community in a safe, respectful
environment.
Beliefs
- The child is the
generative heart of the school.
- Our school provides a
safe, orderly, aesthetically pleasing environment in which to learn and
work.
- Student learning and
achievement of the Illinois State Standards are the chief priorities of
our school.
- Our students are
grounded in the basic skills of reading with comprehension, speaking and
writing with clarity, and computing with accuracy.
- They think
critically, make appropriate decisions and work cooperatively.
- The Illinois State
Standards guide the development of the curriculum, the design of
instruction, and learning activities in the classroom.
- Our students have
opportunities to:
- work
collaboratively and individually;
- apply
learned skills in a variety of contexts;
- recognize
and create quality performances and products.
- Because students
learn in different ways, classrooms provide a variety of instructional
strategies that address learning styles.
- Students will be
